When Should You Choose a Woltman Meter?

The largest threaded meter size on our site is DN50. At this size, the permanent flow rate (Q3) of Klepsan’s threaded KVS-19K meter is 25 m³/h, that of the Woltman meter is 40 m³/h and that of the agricultural model is 63 m³/h. This is why Woltman meters are used on high-flow main lines, on pipes larger than DN50 and in applications with continuously high flow such as irrigation. The meter size is determined by the flow rate of the line, not by the pipe size: the meter’s Q3 must cover the normal operating flow, and short peaks must not exceed the overload flow rate (Q4 = 1.25 × Q3).

Size, Permanent Flow Rate, Length and Flange Dimensions

Values are taken from the Klepsan 2023 catalog; Q3 values are the upper limits given in the catalog. On our site, the hot water model is offered up to DN200.

Installation and Reading

Klepsan Woltman meters have an electrostatically painted cast iron body (GG25) with IP68 protection. The 7-roller mechanical register is suitable for optical reading; with the optional pulse output, the meter can be connected to a data logger or a building automation system. Because turbine meters are affected by the flow profile, the straight pipe lengths upstream and downstream of the meter specified in the manufacturer’s installation instructions must be observed, and a strainer should be installed before the meter to protect it from sand and burrs in the line.

What is the difference between flanged and threaded water meters?

Threaded meters are screwed onto the pipe with union connectors; the threaded models on our site range from DN15 to DN50. Flanged meters are bolted to the flanges of the pipeline; Woltman meters are built this way and start from DN50.

Can a Woltman meter be read remotely?

A pulse output is optional on Klepsan Woltman meters; by connecting the pulse signal to a data logger, consumption can be monitored remotely. The mechanical register is also suitable for optical reading.
