NVS - Strainer

A strainer is a filtering element that removes foreign matter such as sludge, sand, rust and sediment from the water in heating-cooling systems and hydronic installations. It increases system efficiency and prevents clogging.

Operating Principle and Features

1. Filtering Mechanism:
• As water passes through the device, non-magnetic particles (sludge, sand) settle to the bottom.
• The magnetic core (if fitted) captures rust and metallic debris.
2. Design:
• Vertical and horizontal models are available.
• Models with a transparent body allow visual inspection of contamination.
• In models with automatic drain, sediment can be easily drained through a valve.
3. Material:
• Body: Brass, cast steel or polypropylene.
• Filter: Stainless steel mesh or magnetic rod.

Installation and Maintenance

1. Installation:
• Installed on the boiler return line.
• On horizontal models, the flow direction arrow must be observed.
2. Cleaning:
• On manual models, sediment is drained by opening the bottom cap.
• If a magnetic rod is fitted, rust is cleaned off periodically.
3. Points to Note:
• If the system has a circulation pump, the strainer should be installed upstream of the pump.
• In high-flow systems, correct sizing is important (1/2" to 2" is common).
