NVS Vertical Silent Check Valve
NVS Vertical Check Valve (Silent Check Valve)
A plumbing component that allows the medium passing through it to flow in one direction only.
It automatically shuts off reverse flow, stopping unwanted backflow.
A vertical check valve is a type of valve that allows liquid or gas to flow in one direction only and automatically prevents backflow. It is also called a silent check valve because it produces less noise and vibration than other check valves.
Features and Operating Principle
- One-Way Flow: Allows water to pass in one direction only (top to bottom / bottom to top) and automatically prevents reverse flow.
- Vertical Installation: Thanks to its special design, it works efficiently in vertical pipelines (e.g. high-rise water risers in buildings).
- Silent Operation: Its internal mechanism (spring-loaded or weighted disc) minimizes water hammer and check valve slamming noise.
- Material: Brass, cast iron or stainless steel (depending on pressure and water quality).
Areas of Use
- Building Water Installations:
- At water tank outlets and in booster pump systems.
- Hot Water Systems:
- In combi boiler / apartment heating supply lines.
- Industrial Applications:
- At pump outlets and in fire protection installations.
Installation Rules
- Direction Matters!
- The arrow on the valve shows the direction of water flow. Observe this direction during installation.
- Vertical Position:
- Used only in vertical pipelines (efficiency drops if installed horizontally).
- Gasket/PTFE Tape:
- Always apply to threaded connections for a tight seal.
Advantages
✔ Longer service life than conventional check valves.
✔ Reduces water hammer (silent operation).
✔ Withstands high pressure (models rated 16 bar and above are available).
Example Applications
- "We prevented backflow by fitting a vertical check valve to the water riser of a 5-story building."
- "We prevented pump damage by installing a silent check valve at the booster pump outlet."
⚠ Points to Note:
- Check the mechanism periodically (limescale can cause sticking).
- Be careful when selecting the pump, as the valve can cause pressure loss.
Standards and Technical Details
- Working Pressure: 10-25 bar
- Temperature Resistance: -10°C to +110°C (depending on material)
- Connection Type: Standard threaded models such as 3/4", 1", 1¼", or flanged models.
Note: Vertical check valves should conform to the TS EN 13959 standard.
Silent Check Valve vs Conventional Check Valve
| Specification | Vertical (Silent) Check Valve | Conventional Check Valve |
|---|---|---|
| Installation Position | Vertical only | Horizontal/vertical |
