NVS - Tank Union

A tank union is a sealing connection fitting used on the inlet and outlet lines or connection points of water tanks. It is usually made of plastic (PVC, polypropylene) or brass and makes tank installation easier.

Purpose and Features

1. Connections on Water Tanks:
• Used for the tank inlet (mains water), outlet (supply line) and overflow pipe connections.
• Plastic (PVC) tank unions are compatible with polyethylene water tanks.
• Brass unions are preferred where higher pressure resistance is required.
2. Sealing:
• Prevents water leaks with a gasketed or taper-thread design.
• Can be easily integrated into the piping.
3. Easy Installation:
• Screwed into a hole drilled in the tank wall or secured with a lock nut.
• The rubber gasket prevents water leakage.

Types

1. Plastic (PVC) Tank Union:
• Usually in 1/2" (half inch) or 3/4" sizes.
• Used on polyethylene water tanks and low-pressure lines.
2. Brass Tank Union:
• More durable and suitable for higher pressure.
• Models with stainless steel threads are also available.
3. Combination Unions (Double-Sided):
• Designed so that one end connects to the tank and the other to the supply pipe.

How Is It Installed?

1. A suitable hole is drilled in the tank wall.
2. The gasketed part of the union is placed on the inside of the tank.
3. It is tightened from the outside with the lock nut or screws.
4. The pipe connection is made to integrate it into the system.

⚠ Points to Note:

• The hole diameter must match the union size.
• Overtightening may cause plastic unions to crack.
• For a long service life, choose UV-resistant (for outdoor tanks) or chemical-resistant unions.
