1/2" Straight Radiator Union – Technical Specifications and Use

The 1/2" straight radiator union is a fitting used for radiator connections in heating systems (central heating installations), usually made of brass.

Features and Intended Use

✔ Connection Type: Straight thread (without collar) – screws directly into the radiator valve or pipeline.
✔ Thread Standard: 1/2" (half-inch) BSP (R or G thread) – usually R1/2" (taper thread) or G1/2" (parallel thread).
✔ Material: Brass or wrought iron – brass is preferred for corrosion resistance and long service life.
✔ Application:

• Radiator connections in combi boiler or central heating systems,
• It bridges the radiator valve and the pipe.

Installation Notes

1. Gasket Use:
• Seal with a silicone gasket or PTFE (Teflon) tape.
• A taper thread (R1/2") is self-sealing, but using an additional sealant is recommended.
2. Tightening Direction:
• It is tightened clockwise onto the radiator valve (right-hand thread).
3. Compatibility:
• Available in male or female versions to suit the bottom or side inlet of the radiator.
• The 1/2" straight union is usually used where the valve connects to the radiator.
