NVS - Elbow
An elbow is a corner fitting used in piping to change the direction of the flow. It is usually made with a 90° or 45° angle and can be made of various materials.
Elbow Types and Features
1. Standard Elbows
| Type | Angle | Material | Application |
|---|---|---|---|
| 90° Elbow | 90° | PVC, Brass, Steel | Water, gas and drainage lines |
| 45° Elbow | 45° | PP, Stainless steel | Lines that require a smoother change of direction |
2. Special Elbows
- Adjustable Elbow: Adjustable angle (0-90°).
- Long-Radius Elbow: Designed for lower pressure loss.
- Reducing Elbow: Joins different sizes (e.g. 1" → 3/4").
Points to Consider When Choosing an Elbow
✔ Material Compatibility: Must match the pipe material (PVC pipe → PVC elbow).
✔ Pressure Resistance: Metal elbows should be preferred in high-pressure systems.
✔ Medium Type: Stainless steel or PP elbows should be used for chemicals.
How to Install an Elbow
- Measure the pipe size (1/2", 3/4", etc.).
- Before fitting the elbow onto the pipe, apply Teflon tape or adhesive (for PVC).
- Join firmly (use a wrench on threaded elbows).
- Perform a leak test.
