Magmaweld EI 316L Stainless Steel Electrode (316 Grade)
Magmaweld EI 316L Stainless Steel Electrode (316 Grade)
Magmaweld EI 316L stainless steel electrode: rutile-coated arc welding electrode, 250–350 mm long. Size range: 2.5 × 250 mm – 5 × 350 mm (6 sizes). This rutile-coated EI 316L electrode is made for arc welding, cladding and build-up of grade 316 stainless steels. It is sold in packs in Ø2.5–5 mm diameters and 250–350 mm lengths.
AISI 316 (1.4401) is a molybdenum-alloyed stainless steel. It resists chloride media, sea water and chemicals significantly better than grade 304 and is recommended for swimming pools, coastal sites, chemical plants and outdoor use.
Applications
- Welding of grade 316 stainless equipment and pipes
- Marine, food and pharmaceutical machinery, filling machines
- Welds on installations, boilers, tanks and pools

Selection and installation notes
- Choose the electrode diameter according to material thickness and current; follow the current range given on the pack and in the drawing (e.g. 80–120 A for Ø3.25).
- The pack is vacuum-sealed; after opening, store the electrodes in a dry place and do not use electrodes that have absorbed moisture.
- After welding, remove the slag and clean off heat tint and oxide by pickling or with a weld cleaning gel.
- AISI 304 is intended for general use; choose AISI 316 for chloride media, sea water and swimming pool applications.
- Direct contact between stainless steel and galvanized or carbon steel can cause galvanic corrosion; use insulation (washers, unions) between different metals.
