KAS edge insulation strip is an essential complementary product applied along the base of walls before screed is poured, especially in underfloor heating systems. It is designed to protect the life and efficiency of the system.
Key facts about this product:
1. What Is It Used For?
Leaves room for expansion: Prevents the heated screed layer from pressing against the walls as it expands, and thus prevents the screed from cracking.
Prevents thermal bridges: Saves energy by preventing heat from escaping through the walls.
Provides sound insulation: As it leaves no physical bond between the screed layer and the wall, it minimizes sound (impact noise) transmission.
2. Technical Specifications
Material: Usually made of polyethylene foam; flexible and lightweight.
Dimensions: Commonly supplied in rolls 10 cm wide and 5 mm to 10 mm thick.
Self-adhesive option: Some models have an adhesive strip on the back for easier installation.
Foil/skirt: Some types have a plastic skirt to prevent screed from running under the strip.
3. Installation
Placement: Before the underfloor heating pipes are laid, it is run continuously along the base of all perimeter walls of the room.
Fixing: Fixed to the wall with adhesive or staples.
After screeding: Once the screed has been poured and has dried, the excess is easily trimmed with a utility knife when the floor covering (parquet, tiles, etc.) is laid.
4. Why Use It?
Without an edge insulation strip, the heated concrete has no room to expand and starts to crack at its weakest point. Heat losses along the base of the walls also push up your energy bills.
