  They are defined as zone control valves. To separate (control) the zones within a building, they are 

used as shut-off valves on water supply lines. Butterfly valves or rising stem valves are used for shut-off or control purposes. Rising stem valves are a type of gate valve that, when fully open, 

does not disturb smooth flow; the open position can be seen from the up-and-down movement of the stem, and electrical monitoring is possible by fitting a supervisory switch. 

They cause less hydraulic loss than butterfly valves.

 They are defined as local control valves. Generally they are used in water feed lines as shut-off valves in order to separate (to control) zones 

in the location. Butterfly valves or rising stem valves are used in order to shut off or to control the flow. The OS&Y valve in full open position is a type 

of gate valve that does not hinder the flow; the open position enables the observation of the stem moving up and down and allows for electrical 

monitoring with a supervisory switch. Compared to a butterfly valve, it has lower hydraulic losses.
