By design, when the internal pressure of the water heater rises above the set pressure, the water heater safety valve starts to discharge water in drops from its outlet.
This is completely normal and a sign that your system is safe; it is by no means a fault.
In this case, simply fit an 8 mm hose to the discharge outlet and route its other end to a drain.
What is the lever on the water heater safety valve for?
Operating the lever (opening and closing it) lets you prevent the limescale that may build up over time between the sealing gasket and the discharge outlet.
This protects the safety valve’s gasket and seat against clogging by limescale, sand or grit that may be present in the pipework.
