Water Meter Manifold
Water Meter Manifold (Water Meter Distributor)
A water meter manifold is a distribution element that groups the apartment water meters of a building on a single header. Novus manufactures a 2" (DN50) hot-dip galvanized header as standard; stainless steel and PPRC headers are also available. The number of outlets is set by the number of apartments, outlet sizes range from ½" to 1", and the header length depends on the width of the meters and unions.
- Header: 2" (DN50) galvanized · stainless steel · PPRC
- Number of outlets: 2 – 12 (on one header)
- Outlet size: ½" · ¾" · 1"
- Layout: single-sided or double-sided
- Outlet type: threaded · union · with valve
- Price: per outlet, project-specific

How does it work?
Water from the main riser enters the header, slows down along it and is distributed from each outlet to one apartment. Each outlet takes an apartment water meter, with a ball valve upstream and, where needed, a check valve and strainer. Grouping the meters in one place makes meter reading, maintenance and utility account procedures easier.
Size table by number of outlets
| Outlets | Serves | Approx. header length | Outlet size |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2 outlets | 2 apartments | ≈ 560 mm | ½" or ¾" |
| 4 outlets | 4 apartments | ≈ 880 mm | ½" or ¾" |
| 6 outlets | 6 apartments | ≈ 1,200 mm | ½" or ¾" |
| 8 outlets | 8 apartments | ≈ 1,520 mm | ½" or ¾" |
| 10 outlets | 10 apartments | ≈ 1,840 mm | ½" or ¾" |
| 12 outlets | 12 apartments | ≈ 2,160 mm | ½" or ¾" |
Lengths assume a 160 mm center-to-center spacing and a 120 mm end allowance; they vary with the width of the meters and unions. For exact dimensions, use the configurator.

Installation and sizing notes
- Center-to-center spacing: meter body + two unions + installation allowance; 150–180 mm is a practical spacing for ½" meters.
- End allowance: at least 100–120 mm is left at both ends of the header for welding and end caps.
- Valves: a ball valve on each outlet makes meter replacement easier.
- Wall clearance: at least 120 mm between the header and the wall is recommended for reading and removing the meters.
- Labeling: apartment number labels can be applied to each outlet on request.
Frequently asked questions
What is a water meter manifold?
A water meter manifold (water meter distributor) is a distribution element that groups the water meters of the apartments in a building on a single header. Water from the main line enters the header and is distributed through each outlet, via its meter, to one apartment. At Novus, a 2" (DN50) galvanized header is standard; stainless steel and PPRC headers are also manufactured.
How many outlets should it have?
The number of outlets equals the number of apartments (meters) to be connected. From 2 to 12 outlets are made on a single header; for more, the header diameter is increased or a second manifold is made.
What outlet size should I choose?
Apartment meters are usually ½" (DN15) or ¾" (DN20), so the outlets are made in these sizes. For commercial units, 1" and larger outlets are also available.
Single-sided or double-sided?
If the meter room is wide, a single-row (single-sided) installation is easy. In narrow spaces, two rows of outlets above and below the same header (double-sided) are preferred; the same number of outlets is achieved with a shorter header.
How is the price calculated?
The price is set per outlet: the header size, the number of outlets and the outlet type (threaded, union, with valve) determine the price. When you send your dimensions, we quote the price per outlet together with the total amount.
Are meters, valves and check valves included?
As standard, the manifold header is supplied with its outlets. On request, ball valves, unions, check valves, strainers and meters can also be fitted; the meters are supplied from Novus’s own product range.
Which material should be chosen?
For domestic water, the most common solution is a hot-dip galvanized header. Where hygiene or long service life is the priority, stainless steel (AISI 304/316) is used; in buildings with plastic piping, a PPRC header is used.
